Best BBQ in the RGV. Good enough to hold its own with the best Hill Country BBQ places in the state. We got here at 2pm and the pork ribs were already sold out. The Brisket was moist, juicy and delicious. The Pork Belly was very flavorful and easy to devour. The Mac and Cheese was very good, too; some of the best I've had at any restaurant in the RGV. GW BBQ definitely lives up to the hype and then some.

Updated Review of GW's BBQ: Concerns About Disability Accommodation Before our visit to GW's BBQ, we saw a post on their social media asking customers to notify staff if someone in their party has a disability. When my parents arrived they waited at a table while we were in line about to order. A staff member soon approached and started asking about my dad's disability. While he wasn't rude, he repeatedly pressed for specifics, asking whether it was his legs, back, etc. Even after an explanation, the staff member came back multiple times for more details. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), individuals are not required to disclose the nature of their disability to receive accommodations. This experience made us feel uncomfortable and singled out — especially given my dad's serious health conditions. I hope GW's BBQ reconsiders how they handle these situations and provides better training for their staff on ADA rights and respectful communication. ————————————————————— We visited GWs in Pharr, TX, and while the food was amazing, the overall experience was a bit frustrating. We arrived before opening and waited over 30 minutes outside, being around the first 30-40 people in line. That number quickly grew as cars started pulling up and cutting the line to be with family/friends, adding another 10-20 people. Once we got inside, we were told we couldn't sit down until we ordered unless we were elderly, disabled, or had kids. This rule allowed people at the back of the line to sit just because they were older or had kids. What really made it frustrating, though, was seeing younger customers being allowed to sit down, especially if they were friends of the staff or regulars. It made the policy feel inconsistent. There were about 4-5 staff members making sure no one sat down unless they met the criteria, but only 3 were actually helping with the food and at the register. As a young adult with back and nerve issues, it was tough to be treated like I should stand for long periods just because I didn't look like I needed special treatment. It's not something most people want to explain, but it felt like younger customers were being singled out, while those at the back of the line—many with kids or older—got to sit comfortably. We ordered The Vaughn platter, pork belly, and lamb. Unfortunately, we found a hair in the pork belly, and our Vaughn platter was missing sausage. They did bring us the sausage and fixed the issue, but it was still disappointing. On the bright side, they were offering free coffee from Dutch Bros, which helped make the wait a little more enjoyable. Another downside was that the door was left open, which made it warm inside. People from the line were standing right next to you, watching you while you ate. It was a cloudy day, so it wasn't unbearable, but I can't imagine how uncomfortable it would be on a hot summer day when the place would likely get even warmer. While the food itself is definitely worth coming back for, the seating situation, the way the staff handled it, and the uncomfortable indoor temperature really need improvement. It felt like younger customers were treated unfairly, and the whole waiting and seating process made the experience less enjoyable. Hopefully, they can improve the system, because the food truly is great. Total Wait Time: 30 min outside + 45 inside= 1hr 15min

Pretty sure I've talked about this place before, way back when it first opened. Now a couple of years and many awards and accolades later, it's time for a follow up. Let's get into it. The Service. GW's has gone through a lot since I last ate there. I remember walking into a half empty restaurant with decent, if pricey, food and leaving satisfied if not blown away. Now trying it again after all their success is like entering a whole new world. This place was packed, with a line that snaked through the actual dining area. Might be uncomfortable if you're claustrophobic. Regardless, one of the floor staff was kind enough to escort my mother to a table while I got in line to order. About 10-15 minutes later, I was at the counter. The gentleman at the counter was nice enough to explain some questions I had. The 1st being they now serve everything al carte. No 1, 2, or 3 meat plates. You order by the 1/4 - 1 pound of meat and several options of sizes for sides. The only exceptions being the sandwiches which can come in combos. At 43 dollars for 2, it's still quite pricey for my taste, but value is subjective and you might think otherwise for better or worse. You do need to grab your own drinks, but napkins and most condiments are table side. Regardless, we were well looked after once we sat down to eat. The Food. Still very tasty. I had the brisket burger, a very substantial big boy patty on a toasted bun with a side of their Mac and Cheese. The meat on this burger was so tender it was practically falling apart. I enjoyed the Mac and Cheese as well, white cheese sauce and toasted bread crumbs made this an elevated side with plenty of flavor and not too salty. My mother had a half pound of pork ribs, basically 2, a side of the garlic green beans and a side of the potato salad. She didn't care too much for the green beans. The flavor was fine but she didn't like the French style cut. She did enjoy both the potato salad and ribs. At her age, meat needs to be good and tender and these pork ribs fit the bill. Matched with a few options of BBQ sauce of various heats and sweetness and you have a good time. The Atmosphere. As I mentioned before, the place was packed, the table area has never been a very big one, compared to something like a Rudy's and you are likely to feel the compression at a busy lunch time. While the seats and tables themselves are comfortable and the staff do their best to keep things efficient, I would consider ordering ahead for takeout if you're bad with crowds. GW's has rightfully earned a great deal of success. While their prices are a bit steep for my wallet and the restaurant needs a serious expansion, their food and service are what carry them to further heights in the future.

Possibly the best BBQ I've had! I ordered the Texas Two Step, which feeds 2 people, with one other person and it was more than enough for both of us. We had left overs. It normally comes with ribs but they were sold out so we opted for the turkey breast. I normally wouldn't choose turkey but it was cooked to perfection, juicy and moist. I highly highly recommend the cornbread! 1000/10 definitely coming back!

First time here. I have eaten in many BBQ Places from the Rio Grand Valley all the way North to San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, etc. GW's did not disappoint, and is one of my Top BBQ places in Texas. I Ordered the Texas 2 Step. It was amazing. The brisket was moist and delicious. The pork ribs were amazing, as well as the jalapeño and cheese sausage. I also ordered a beef rib, which was fall off the bone amazing! The sides were amazing as well. I had the macaroni and cheese, potato salad, and the sweet and delicious cornbread. Met some of the staff and they were nice and friendly. I definitely recommend this place for everyone. We will definitely be coming back! Great Job GW BBQ! Keep up the Great Work!
