Holy moly. First, the staff was super nice and warmly welcomed us. She was patient and talked us thru our options due to our food allergies.
The food came out quickly and was beautiful, if you can appreciate how yummy something looks.
Every bite in everything we ordered resulted in an obligatory eye roll from its deliciousness. We strategically slowed ourselves down to try and savor each bite.
I am from 5 hours away in the Dallas area without an HEB near me. I have never had this joy but now I realize I am missing out. Thanks HEB!!!!
My wife got the half chicken with brisket beans & coleslaw. She said the beans were the best part of her meal. I got the pork ribs with potato salad & coleslaw. The ribs were either overcooked or precooked and reheated. Had to rip the meat off the bone. For me the potato salad was the best part of my meal. We both agreed that the coleslaw was okay but not fresh. Definitely cost too much for poor quality of food.
My wife and I love to get the loaded baked potato with sliced brisket piled on top. Today, we tried the chopped brisket on our potatoes instead. Both are amazing. The staff is very friendly and welcoming.
My post is based solely on the food. We practically ordered the entire menu.
Burnt Ends: Great ðŸ‘
La Jefa: Nice flavor 😋
Banna Pudding: Great 😋
Peach Cobbler: OK (probably tastes better warm) 🤔
[Now the disappointment]
The Jefe: Big portion? I took one bite and almost threw up. It was the combination of textures, the snap of the sausage, meat, and a whole glob of fat. It’s ok, though brisket is fatty. If you don’t like it, get rid of it, right? Not here. About 75-80% of the brisket in the sandwich was fat.
Brisket Nachos: Trying to get rid of the awful 😖 mouth feel, the nachos. Can’t go wrong? The sour cream is a lie. Disguising another big glob of fat…. 🤢 Now, a combination of creamy, cheesey, crunchy, and fat, I gave up on it.
Brisket&Beans: Beans nice taste, nothing crazy. But the brisket yet again was mostly fat….🫩
Overall, there were pretty good flavors. Just try to avoid most of the brisket items unless you are the weird one at the barbecue who likes really fatty slices.
I had the sliced beef sandwich, which was excellent. I also ordered peach cobbler, which was, in a word, gross. It smelled strangely and tasted awful. The cobbler part was a mushy mess. The dessert didn’t have the faintest peach flavor at all. It was just sweet. I hoped by digging in further I would find a part that I could eat. Well, there was no such part. My spoon hit the bottom of the container and the level of the dessert didn’t even make it halfway up the spoon. The “cobbler” might have filled up a 1/3 cup measure. I paid $3.49 and I got a about 4-5 tablespoons’ worth of dessert. What a ripoff. Do better, HEB.
