Great food and service. Serve tangy BBQ sauce that’s a touch sweet, just how I like it. Brisket, chopped BBQ beef and chicken were fall-apart tender. Service was southern hospitality style friendly. Restaurant has their own bakery section with amazing cookies. The atmosphere was presented with a lot of history of the local area and a tribune to American military. I’d recommend trying the place if you find yourself in the area.
I was going to order the smoked chicken plate, but they were out of chicken so I ordered the catfish plate. My husband had planned on ordering the 2 meat plate with ribs, but they were out of it. So, he ordered the turkey and jalapeno cheese sausage. The catfish was good. Onion rings and hush puppies were good. The green beans lacked flavor. My husband’s turkey was good. The sausage was dried out. It tasted like they cut it before they smoked it.
Notice this place when I stop for some fuel and thought I would give it a try. It was actually really good! I was surprised by the value and the food quality overall. Will release it out with their sides as well! There were so many options. Don’t skip on the dinner rolls with the cinnamon butter and their bakery was top notch.
We stopped for lunch on a Sunday trip to Corpus Christi. Overall, it was solid BBQ. The bar for Texas style BBQ is just high.
The brisket was flavorful and tender, but not blow you away. The pork ribs were excellent. The showstopper was the bbq baked potato- I would definitely order that again.
They did have excellent sides and brewed iced tea. Worth a stop!
The Brisket is thick, juicy & mouth-happy delicious! In fact every meat selection was oversized making the price per plate worth it. We appreciated the historical decor, I had no idea Mathis was so cool!
