If you want an authentic Texas BBQ experience, this is your spot. There was a 30 minute wait to get in and this was going early at 5:30. The brisket was SO tender, it literally falls apart placing it from the tray to your plate. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was delicious. The ribs and the Texas Twinkie were good too. A great perk is the complimentary dessert. By far the BEST banana pudding I ever had. So much better than the iconic banana pudding served at Magnolia Bakery in NYC.
I love this barbecue spot, they cook everything Texas-style in a wood-burning oven, and you can smell that smoky goodness from a distance. It’s mouthwatering even before you step inside.
The sides are amazing,I had the creamy corn and fries, both delicious. They also offer free bread and desserts, which is such a treat. I tried all the desserts, including the peach cobbler and banana pudding, and they were good.
We ordered the Texas Twinkies (so flavorful!), along with sausages, ribs, and chicken—everything was cooked well. The staff are super friendly and helpful. If you want to sample a bit of everything, they offer small portions so you can try more dishes. Shoutout to our server, Arlene, she was so kind, personable, and even helped us set up the table.
I’ll definitely be coming back. If you want a true Texas barbecue experience, this is the place to go!
Hands down one of the best BBQ spots you can go to in all of Texas. The brisket and ribs were simply amazing — tender, juicy, and flavorful regardless of how you paired them. The smoke and char on the cuts of meat were perfect, as they didn’t overshadow the meatiness but elevated the entire profile.
The meat is sold by the pound, while the sides are by the box, and you can fill them up as much as you like. There is also complimentary bread, onions, jalapeños, pickles, and pepper. Lastly, if you choose to dine in, there’s complimentary banana pudding with cake — which is top-tier by itself.
Beyond the food, the service and entire staff were exceptional. In particular, Arlet, who served our table, was very kind and friendly. She brought over the garnishes and dessert and constantly checked up on us during our meal.
The dining area is spacious and primarily self-serve. We visited during a weekday afternoon, so there was no wait, but it would still be well worth it even if there was.
We’ve had plenty of Austin BBQ so we had to try Dallas’. We took a drive out to Hutchins BBQ to see what all the fuss was about and here’s what we found:
The setting: pretty standard, ample parking which is nice. The interior is dimly lit and the line management could be better as it gets a bit cramped in the inside area before you order. They have a bit of outdoor seating so if you have a dog that helps out a bit.
The service: very good. From free samples on the line in to friendly cutters and workers happy to take a tray from me, the service was extremely smiley and top notch. True Southern hospitality. From lining up to sitting down with our food took about 30-40 minutes which was a bit of a wait considering we came at 3PM on a Saturday.
The food: A bit disappointing. The brisket was oddly tough. You get brisket for the fall apart texture but this just didn’t have that. The flavor was good and the bark was fine but the texture ruined it. The beef rib was much the opposite. Juicy and tender, the beef rib was packed of flavor; the best part of the meal easily. For our side we had the Mac and cheese which was good but nothing we haven’t had before. The bacon in the Mac and cheese was different but nothing that made it memorable. One really fantastic thing is that they offer endless ice cream, peach cobbler, and banana pudding for those who dine in. The peach cobbler was awesome, warm and sweet. The banana pudding was alright, nothing special. We didn’t have the ice cream so we can’t comment on it too much.
Overall, Hutchins was a let down. Outside of the beef rib there wasn’t a single thing I would consider great, just very average if not below. Maybe we came on a bad day, we honestly believe we did. If we’re ever in the area we’d be happy to giver it another try. Until then we will plead no contest to whether or not we’d recommend it.
This place becomes my favorite bbq place in Dallas at the first visit! The beef rib was juicy and tender with some fat which I love! The brisket was delicious! And I love their side dishes! The desert was great as well! The atmosphere was relaxing and fun! You can bring your own beer or alcohol!
