We went to Texas from NYC for a Retreat in Mineola. The car rental service rep told us about Terry Black's and even though she hadn't been there she told us that she highly recommends a visit. So, we made our way here! There is parking across the street. The atmosphere was such a summer vibe! Outdoor dining, chill space , nothing high end which was good for us. The service is fast. Potato salad , beef ribs , Mac & cheese finger licking good! We had a really enjoyable meal

We had both the beef ribs and pork ribs, both were excellent and very reasonably priced. There were plenty of great side dishes, my favorites were the creamed corn, mac & cheese, and fried rice. You can choose to sit indoors or outdoors, and there's also a bar where you can order drinks. The space is large, comfortable, and has a strong Texas vibe. The whole place actually reminded me of a brewery. Highly recommend.

Food: The ribs were okay but nowhere near close to the best I've ever had, especially for the price. The brisket was also okay. I wish the meat had more flavor. The sides really caught me off guard, but not in a good way. The creamy corn basically tastes like a cinnamon roll and that's no exaggeration. The cornbread is the exact taste of the breading on corn dogs. I didn't hate it but also couldn't eat too much of it. The baked beans are exactly like the ranch style beans in the black can. The Mac and cheese noodles were too firm/undone and it was bland.Environment: We got there right before the evening crowd came and then it was packed. They're very quick to clean tables and everyone is very nice. I don't hold the crowd against them, they're popular! They have a nice area outside with rooftop seating.Overall, it was definitely just okay and I won't be returning. Vaqueros and Good Union are much better with better prices. Ten50 has amazing Mac and cheese.

Terry Black's BBQ lives up to the hype with bold flavors, smoky perfection, and a Texas-style experience that feels both authentic and intense. I visited recently and opted for the beef rib—massive, fall-off-the-bone tender, and packed with flavor. The quality of the meat is undeniable, and though I didn't need that much meat, I have no regrets. I just wish I had someone to share it with. That said, the price caught me a little off guard. I paid $44 for 1.25 lbs of meat, which felt steep at first—but considering the portion size and taste, it was definitely worth it. Maybe I just don't know what meat costs these days, but be prepared. My tray came out to $64, and after tipping, the total was $73. The Mac was 8/10, green beans 8/10, cornbread 9/10, and pickles were so tasty. 😋The ordering process was probably the only slightly overwhelming part of the visit. The line moves fast, so you don't get much time to figure out what you want. It's a well-oiled machine, which is great if you're a regular, but if it's your first time, it's easy to over-order or get caught up in the rush (like I did).Overall, Terry Black's delivered on flavor, atmosphere, and that signature barbecue experience. It's the kind of place you visit when you want to treat yourself or impress an out-of-town guest with real Texas BBQ. Just come hungry, maybe bring a friend to split a tray, and be ready to move quick when it's your turn to order! Definitely recommend it. :)

First time trying Texas BBQ! I really appreciated the how-to information as a first-timer so I knew what to expect and could think about my order while I was waiting in line. Around 1pm on a Saturday, the line was actually not that long, only to the door, but there wasn't hardly any seating indoors. Also not much seating for groups of 1-2 people aside from the bar. The outdoor seating areas were very nice, though, and most had shade (though not the upper level). So after passing all the merchandise they had for sale in the line, you get to the sides and desserts. Everything moved so fast, it was kind of a blur, so I'm glad I had an idea of what I wanted. I did wish there were prices at the side bar, though, because they really get you with those. The meat carver/cashier was nice enough, though nowhere as friendly and helpful as the person in the how-to-order video they give you a QR code for on the way in. The food was very good, but quite expensive - though, since I went, it seems like on the whole prices are pretty much on par with BBQ joints in rural Texas and even southern BBQ places in other cities. (Not sure why they want you to tip, though, when it's all very counter-serve and plastic tray, clean up after yourself.) Make sure to get your white bread and try all the sauces! The ambiance was lovely, enjoying country music and the smell of meat roasting while you eat your food really contributed to how it tasted. A lot of tourist types, but also quite a few folks in cowboy hats. It was also cool to see the pit where they were cooking the meats - they advertised a "pit tour," but I hung around the pit area and asked some questions and nobody offered a more in-depth "tour," so I assume that meant you just get to see the smokers with the meat roasting since they leave the doors open to the outside.
